When trying to place a voice call through iOS contacts list and then when I press "Call" it goes to Teams or Zoom or Whatsapp rather than the stock phone dialer.

I can see your pain and frustration so sympathies with you; what an irresponsible repay to change a setting for each contacts. Does this community is guarded and monitored by responsible apple staffs.

I am a recent entrant to IOS; now looks like entrapped !!!! amazingly

my pro max 14 contacts "CALL" are defaulted to many apps like Zoom,

WhatsApp, Team and even Botim except for dialer; god knows for why.

With lots of frustration, I was searching for a solution to

fix this issue I am facing daily with few 1000's of my contacts. Finally

reached here, hoping for a fix; after looking to the above, noting the ridicules

suggestion to change individual contacts to dialer, it shows the ios engineers who

are working on such customer issues have luxurious time with no work or respect

to other times.

Also interestedly when select to phone or mobile, the set us

is temporary and goes back to default in few days and ask for same action

again.

when look to the issue that; it is not with one app and it goes with all modern apps so the issue is a glitch with Apple contact setting. Can we get a fix from ios rather than pushing customers to

run behind all apps developers to fix a bug that is with ios only.

Also need a Search bar in recent calls rather than pushing

back to search in all of contacts again

Hi Indy_,

The buttons you describe are assigned the first time you use them for a contact, and can be reprogrammed if you have multiple contact methods for a particular option. To do so, press and hold on the Call button and a list of options will pop up. Choose the one you wish to use and that should remain the default until you reprogram the option. This is described in the article Add and use contact information on iPhone:

"To change the default phone number or email address for a contact method, touch and hold the button for that method below the contact’s name, then tap a selection in the list."

To get started, does this issue occur with specific contacts, or all contacts in the Contacts app? Also, have you ensured that there are no settings enabled within WhatsApp that would cause the app to be used when making calls? It's possible that some apps may have certain settings enabled by default, so it's possible that this could be expected.

I also have this problem. My phone cycled through Zoom, WhatsApp, and then went to Instagram which is just silly.

Am I reading your reply correctly to say that you must do this for every single contact? Hundreds of times?

To prevent the iPhone from using Phone to, you know, actually call someone, instead of Zoom or Teams or Instagram? That seems like a horrible user experience.

Just to confirm, as far as we know, there is no global setting where you can set Phone to make voice calls?

If so, I wonder if this is the intended user experience or a bug.

From the original post, it sounds new since version 16.

This is definitely an apple issue. I have the same issue - first it was Zoom, then I deleted zoom, and it started with signal, then I deleted signal, and it started with teams. Clearly not all of these apps are faulty - apple needs to release an IOS update asap.

Hi, just tried to make a call, and noticed this has happened to me too. It seems to default to every other app possible (zoom, ghl, whatsapp, leadconnector etc etc etc). I even changed the permsissions in the settings for all the apps the calls were defaulting too (removing all access to contact, wifi, mobile etc) but it didnt make a difference, just keeps opening different apps. IOS settings doesnt have anywhere to change the default calling app from what I can see.

To all the devs reading this... It is an IOS issue CLEARLY. Not a third party permissions issue like you keep suggesting - I have trialled every conceivable fix, even deleting the app doesnt work because it just defaults to opening another app. It happens with literally every app that you could possibly call out from. Please tell me someone has a fix for this?
