Can’t find Migration Assistant on older mac
iMac, OS X 10.11
You use MA on the new Mac.
Wi-Fi is a bad idea for a variety of reasons. Attach the backup drive directly to the new Mac just as if your were attaching it as a backup.
If you don't have a Time Machine backup of the old Mac, you need to create one now on an external HDD.
Hmmm...seems like the Applications folder in Finder has been around forever...but honestly can't recall exactly how far back it dates. If, as you're saying, you don't have an Applications folder, then you'll have to follow ku4hx's advice and do a Time Machine backup to an external hard drive. Then take that Time Machine backup and use it to run Migration Assistant on your new Mac. (You didn't say which model your new Mac is....or even that you have a new Mac, for that matter).
Trying to move data from my older iMac to my Mac mini. Unable to connect them. Tried Wi-Fi and cable connect. No luck. Can’t find Migration Assistant on older mac
On your older Mac, Migration Assistant should be found by Finder-->Applications-->Utilities-->Migration Assistant.
my Mac is a 2008 and has no applications heading under finder. Entered Search with Utilities and with Migration Assistant and came up with nothing!
