My Macbook Air M1 automatically turn on when the lid is closed, What can I do?

My Macbook Air M1 automatically turns on when the lid is totally closed. I have tried many options to solve this problem. Nothing seems to be working. I would appreciate it if anyone could resolve this issue.

My M1 MBA does this too. Its frustrating to go to it and find the battery is dead. The only way I have beat this is to put the machine to sleep before closing the lid. If I don't put ot to sleep first, it just keeps running. There is no external monitor and no programs to keep it awake. It simply doesn't sleep. Just upgraded to 14.1.2 today, will update if this magically got better.

Same happening with me….Being with apple support on call and tried everything than visited Service centre also they have diagnosed and told me no hardware error. Now Call Support is saying me to submit my Macbook Air m1 again to services centre. It is happening with many macbook after last update. My macbook is out warranty . I havent taken to service centre as of now just because apple is not agreeing that its and software bug by apple only, I have shown them many apple communities post still they are not able to rectify the error. Shame on apple. In case you got the solution provide me the info. Thanks

I know the answer but I cant post it here otherwise Apple will already add another layer in the next update...your device needs to always be on and they have introduced more and more default layers to stop you doing this. Why- I dont know why they would want everyones devices open ...

Anyway here is what worked for me ( I have even started to do this in the daytime) but usually at night:

1) go into sign in / iCloud and remove each device that is listed there (the ones where you get verifications to "trust"

2) sign out of iCloud

3) disable "auto connect"

4) "forget wifi"

5) turn wifi off

6) in the case of new lap top models do a hard shutdown by keeping the touch power button pressed until it turns off (its more than 5 seconds!!)

7) in the case of mobiles if you don't need it on overnight switch off mobile data and switch on airplane mode

This has always worked for me and with my most recent lap top there were even more of these default settings introduced.

So yes these are the lovely daily complexities that come with using this brand.

It won't always be like this.

experiencing the same thing. I rarely use my macbook air m1, but somehow it turned out the way it is now--automatically opening on it's own while lid shut close.

I'll know that it's turned on because I can hear the Apple opening sound even when the lid is close. I tried brining it to the service center even though it's out of warranty and even though I know that I'm using it with utmost care...but I wasn't able to back up files so they told me to back up first.

Not wanting my effort to go to waste, since I was already there, I asked the personnel what will happen if I pursue the appointment with them, what they're planning to do is basic trouble shooting first, which already costs a lot including the check up, then if it doesn't work...there will be a hardware check up (possible another payment).

I know my laptop well, somehow I feel like it's not a hardware issue (reading comments here I was right) cause I've been very careful and I rarely use it. Like so rare. I have this feeling that it might be a software issue. So what I did since they asked to go back after backing up files, I did the basic trouble shooting. Factory resetting the laptop and everything, viola!!! Still automatically opening on it's own while lid shut close.

Somebody help :( If this is a hardware issue (I really hope it's not), oh my gosh that's gonna be expensive.
