Password changed by itself suddenly.

Everything was working fine until I closed my Mac and when I opened it I typed in my password and it wouldn’t accept it.(Poss. T2 issue?) I reset my Mac AND WAS ABLE access the disk,( I have file vault active. I was able to login and everything seemed fine, however when I tried to change my User Password it wouldn’t recognize it? So I decided to reset the Mac again. Now I’m stuck in installing Catalina without access to the disk. It won’t accept any of my password. It’s like it changed the password by itself. Please Help. Thank you.

My password DID change on its own. I recently updated my system (5/2024) with Sonoma 14.5 and a few days after, my password was not correct. After checking the caps lock and the keyboard input multiple times, I ended up restarting the laptop. When I went to enter the password, still came up as incorrect. When I clicked the password hint, it took me back to a previous password from over a year ago. Anyways, typed the old password in and wa-law, success! Weird, but it worked.

In resetting the Mac, I held down power button till startup options, Clicked Options, clicked on “ Forgot Password?s. Then I connected to a Ethernet cable, typed in Applid and password then clicked “Reinstall macOS “Ventura”. I believe I stated Catalina before. My FileVault password isn’t being recognized and My Account is locked.
