This does not answer the question posed by kenton49.

I too would like Apple Maps in CarPlay to show traffic conditions, etc. by default, I should not have to put in a destination to get traffic to appear. Google Maps in CarPlay does this (ie shows traffic without having to input a destination).... maybe there is a setting to activate non-destination showing of traffic conditions?

Thanks in advance for your help; peace!

[…]Traffic on CarPlay is standard with google maps, but for some reason apple in all their infinite wisdom didn’t see the reason to include this feature on CarPlay.

CarPlay and Maps:

Overview your driver’s manual (when not driving). Apple devices on/or certain iOS features are likely are incompatible. If using a third-party stereo, then see if you need to update the firmware.

Seeing marsmars2's reply, I see I made a copy & patse error. Overview the following...

Troubleshooting CarPlay:

A. Driver's Manual:

Read your driver's manual to find out more about syncing this. This may not be an option.

B. Re-Pair this, being in Park:

For many, they must have their automobile in park to get this to all pair successfully. So, un-pair it, then paid it back.

Sync Photos and Contacts Through iCloud:

Enable items in iCloud on different device devices. All will be accessible on the other device. As an example, here is what to do with photos...

Accessing Photos:

On another device associated to the same Apple ID, perform the following.

I. On an iPhone:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Your Name (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Photos so that is is green
  5. Enable: iCloud Photos

II. On a Mac:

Access from iCloud, Manually:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Click: iCloud
  3. Click: Show All
  4. Click: Photos so that is is green
  5. Download: the Photos

For @kenton49 and others, in case this helps:

I got my Maps in CarPlay to work again by a) forgetting my car on my iPhone (under Settings - General - CarPlay, then selecting the car and "Forget this Car"), then b) restarting my iPhone, and c) I updated the software on my vehicle (my Subaru Forester (2019) needed an update.)

Once I did these steps, I reconnected the iPhone to the CarPlay on my Forester, and it's good to go again! :)

Good luck; peace!
