Unable to Write Handwritten Notes On IPad Pro

There is no toolbar for handwritten notes, the toolbar disappears, I turn the ipad pro on and off, sometimes three to four times and still nothing. Every few days it just shows up.

Since the last few updates it has been doing this. I prefer to handwrite my notes as it ie easier. Haven't changed any settings. But did check them just the same.

the keyboard for typing only appears when I tap the screen.

Hello thank you for your response.

when I tap the two arrows with my apple pencil 2, the keyboard pops up, the toolbox that everyone else sees with apple pencil feature is not showing. I can write on my screen but it converts to typed information, it will not stay in the handwritten format.

This is about my my 8th or ninth ipad have been with apple for a very long time, have never had this type of issue.

Yes I can type notes. I don't want them typed. When in a meeting, I want to handwrite them, keep them as handwritten, I write rather neat, I can't utilize the the shape tool features etc.

There's a few things to unpack here.

First, the toolbar. Those two opposing arrows will give you access to the toolbar and navigation. Tap on the opposing arrows, and you can make the toolbar disappear.

Second, handwritten notes. You can type notes - the default. But if you use a stylus (or, better yet, an Apple Pencil), the screen automatically goes into drawing mode. When you stop using the Apple Pencil, Notes goes back into typing mode.

Of course, you don't have to spend lots of money for an Apple Pencil. Less pricy option are available for a fraction of the money. But the Apple Pencil, you have a few more features.

Hmmm.

Likely, it's one of two things. First, the Pencil might not have enough battery. Go to System Settings/Apple Pencil, and you'll see the options for your Pencil. As you probably already know, nesting the iPencil on the top your device charges it automatically. The display will also tell you if you have enough battery to do a drawing.

Second, while you're at System Preferences/Bluetooth, make sure the Pencil is paired. The Bluetooth toggle should be "on", and Apple pencil should show as "connected." If not connected, just let iPencil pair.
