Mac Pro macOS installation progress issue Recently, I discovered that some users are encountering difficulties when attempting to reset their Macs to factory settings. In recovery mode, after erasing the disk, the installer indicates a 2-hour or longer installation time for Big Sur, Monterey, or other versions. I personally experienced this issue and would like to share my insights, which might assist those who find themselves in a similar situation. I aimed to avoid creating a USB bootable stick and found a workaround that seemed to be effective. Here's what helped me initiate the installation process after my computer appeared to be unresponsive: Power off the computer and follow the steps outlined in the article "Mac startup key combinations – Apple Support (UK)" to access macOS recovery mode. I wiped the disk and attempted to install Big Sur, but encountered no success as the installation remained stuck at a 2+ hour estimate. I restarted the Mac and returned to recovery mode. This time, the system tried to download and install Monterey. However, I faced the same problem with an estimated finishing time of 4+ hours. Logs provided little helpful information. If you're using a Mac Pro, connecting your computer to the router via an Ethernet cable simplifies the process. After three restarts with the Ethernet cable plugged in, the recovery mode seemed outdated. The only solution was to erase the disk using Mac OS Extended since APFS was unavailable. In this outdated recovery mode, it became possible to download OS X Mavericks without encountering any issues: While upgrading to the latest macOS versions will require some time, at least you'll be able to load the operating system. MacOS is DownGread from the Monteray Then you'll have to downgrade back to Monterrey! Is there any way to keep all the data and downgrade without erasing the startup disk? I have an urgent task to do on my Mac right now, and it just happened to me.
