Missing episodes on Apple tv

I am missing scattered episodes from GoT on this device (they are fine on iPhone or MacBook). 11/80 missing I think (eg 1,3,4 from season1). Episodes that are present play fine, as do all episodes on other devices.

Hi Will,

We recommend updating your Apple TV if you have an available update. Also restart your Apple TV. These may seem like small steps but they can resolve many issues.

Yes - already been there done that! everything up to date on all devices. But exploration does show that, although the episodes play fine on my MacBook the affected ones look 'odd' in that although listed normally in the TV app they do not show a thumbnail, nor do they have a cloud download icon, as other episodes do. But adjacent episodes that work normally show exactly the same purchase dates and times (24/06/2016, 16:30) as one might expect - so why can I not just stream them anyway regardless of file locations?

To repeat - everything looks and works fine on my iPhone (14Pro OS 16.6). I note that USB syncing with this does NOT restore episodes to the MacBook.

OK - I did and although it took two hours on the phone to four people the problem was finally fixed! We confirmed that I did purchase the successive series as blocks on specific dates so had a right to stream them to the TV box but that scattered episodes had somehow become 'hidden' (& unplayable even on devices where they were listed). The final lady was able to 'unhide' them after which all goes well on all devices. She promised me an explanation by email of the hiding/unhiding process but this has yet to turn up.

Whilst I can see some merit in hiding episodes from young children (ours are >30!) I can find no explantion of this in the Help support.

Nor I - and how it would happen only for certain episodes. I certainly did not do this deliberately and it is not easy to see why it should be so random. But thanks - I did trace this in the end. I do not know why hiding only seems to work on some devices, and why it does not hide but does disable playing on others (like the MacBook). If this facility is thought important it needs work and should perhaps be bundled with other child-protective measures.

Hidden content is not acknowledged in the Store, so it may appear as “not purchased” (until you actually try to purchase).

I don’t view hiding titles as age restriction measure, but more like an option for users that don’t want to be reminded constantly that they once purchased certain titles. People may have made some choices in the past that are not their proudest moments. You can sell or give away or trash a physical book or movie disc, but the digital purchases are ‘forever’.
