So I don't know it for sure, but I think the iPhone uses it's sensors, and advanced algorithms to calculate the health data, like steps, how many stairs you climbed, etc.

The explanation of the link sounds nice. However, maps tells me the distance measured doesn’t mate with the distance measured by the iPhone. The step is wrong. I count a particular route to be 16 steps but the app only counts 8. 20 steps are measured as 12-14.


In a private house with three floors, I apparently never leave the main floor. Interesting, as I sleep in a guest room on the top floor.


IMHO, not accurate enough to be a reliable indicator of anything other than you’re alive because you walked somewhere.
