Which os can I install on a 2009 MacBook Pro

Have el captain and am now encountering lots of issues with my lap top because it is outdated and not compatible with a lot of apps, mail, browsers etc. what is the latest os I could download that would keep my MacBook Pro still relevant and compatible? I bought the laptop in 2010 but it is a mid 2009.

if you have applied all available software updates to your 10.11 El Capitan, you should now have an updated version of Safari later than the standard Safari 9 that shipped with El Capitan. (Might be Safari 11.)

10.11 El Capitan with updated Safari is the latest you can run on that MacBook Pro from 2009.

You may get different results from a fresh download of Firefox.

Avoid Chrome if at all possible. Chrome is BOTH an enormous resource hog and does not perform as well as most others.

a user complained elsewhere that Chase Bank had refused their connection.

Chase Bank appears to have these requirements:

  • Supported browsers
  • Chrome 95.0 and higher
  • Firefox 98.0 and higher
  • Safari 15.0 and higher
  • Edge 95.0 and higher
