Apple TV+ intermittently tells me 'video not available' streaming through Roku

I attempted to continue watching Ted Lasso, and it appears to start, but then stops and says video not available. I've checked my network, and can watch any number of other streaming services on the roku, so it's

not my wifi. This happened some before watching anything, and I read things about resetting the resolution, and *something* worked, as I watched the first season. Literally between episodes the problem resurfaced, and no combination of resetting settings or apps seems to work. This looks like it's been a problem for apple tv for well over a year at least.

Also: there seems to be no tag for the streaming service--I had to choose an apple device to tag this question even though it doesn't apply.

I've seen this response copied on others' questions.

"Something is causing the app to be unable to contact the remote servers." does NOT seem to be the case. This occurred between streaming episodes. This seems like a glitch in the apple tv+ app for roku.

Something is causing the app to be unable to contact the remote servers.

“Video not available” may mean no valid reaction from the remote server.

  1. Verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting.
  2. Verify that your router doesn’t block ports that Apple services like to use.
  3. Verify that you use a good DNS on your router, like the one from your ISP, which gets updated with all server names that Apple might use.
  4. Verify that your Roku has the correct date and time and timezone, as Apple may be more strict about that (TLS) than other content providers.

Else

  1. Check for Roku OS software updates.
  2. Check for Apple TV app updates, if not set to do so automatically.
  3. Try resetting the Apple TV app.
  4. Try deleting and re-installing the Apple TV app.
  5. Try a cold restart of the Roku streaming device or Roku TV (not standby-wake, but really off-on).
