Changing My Location from iPhone to iPad

Hi all,

Currently, I am sharing my location with my friends from my iPhone. If I switch it to sharing my location from my iPad, will it automatically show my friends (that I was previously sharing with) my iPad location? Or will it still show them the iPhone location?

I would like to only have my iPad location shown as my location to my friends from now on, how would I do this? Thanks!!

Shared locations do not specify a device, unless your friends are part of your family sharing group.

If you change the location, the location will reflect the iPads location, but it should not identify any device.

In Family Sharing others can see the locations of all of the other member's devices in the "Devices" tab. But it won't show it as "your" location. Just the location of that specific device.

The location that appears for you as a person in the "People" tab, will be the one from the device you shared it from, however it won't specify which device it is from there.

If that’s the case, how can you use your iPad to locate your phone or vice versa?

Sharing location has nothing to do with location your devices.

You locate a device by selecting it form the Devices tab in the Find My App and it will show its location.

Sharing your location and tracking a specific device's location are 2 different things.

So with that being said, if someone shared their location with me using their iPhone. Could they switch that location To their iPad without me knowing ?

for example, if I’m looking at someone’s location in the “people” tab, could they have switched locations from the iPhone they originally shared with me, to a iPad that they didn’t share with me. But on my end it would still show the same location as if they never switched it? I hope that makes sense.

Yes. But to change the device they are sharing from, they need the other device they are changing to at least to perform the change. It cannot be done remotely. You won't know the the location sharing device has been changed though.

Yes. You won't get any notification about the change in location sharing. But again, they need to have the device with them to make the change as it can only be done on the device they want to share the location from.
