When taking snapshots of portions of the screen the key stroke short cut would previously just save the "screenshot" to my desktop.
As of yesterday it stopped doing this. I now get an untitled item that wants me to decide if i want to save it. I am not impressed at all. If i didn't want to save it I wouldn't have contorted 3 fingers on the keyboard, dragged my mouse over the area & selected said "image'.
Is anyone else feeling my pain?

I encountered the same problem. So the solution i found was when you click shift command 4 before you select the area you will see on your touch bar "save to: .." choose desktop.
Thanks, that was it. Changed option from preview, back to 'desktop'. I'm happy.
