When a kid has an Apple Watch on a family plan that pairs to a parents I-phone, does their watch have to be near the parent phone in order to work?

  1. Requirements: Family Setup requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or later with cellular capabilities, running watchOS 7 or later. You'll also need an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14 or later to set up Family Setup.
  2. Setup: With Family Setup, you can set up an Apple Watch for a family member using your iPhone. The family member's Apple Watch can have its own phone number, and they can make and receive calls, send messages, and more, directly from the watch.
  3. Managing Family Members: As the organizer, you can manage and control certain aspects of the family member's Apple Watch, such as contacts, app permissions, and location sharing. This can provide a level of oversight and control, especially if you're setting up an Apple Watch for a child.
  4. Health and Fitness: Family Setup also allows you to set up activity sharing and health monitoring features for family members, which can be useful for staying connected and ensuring their well-being.

Please note that specific details and features of Family Setup may vary based on the current version of watchOS and iOS, as well as your carrier's support for Family Setup.
