Apple Maps navigation in CarPlay wrongly thinks that my car is moving backwards

I am using CarPlay with my iPhone 13 mini in a Peugeot 308 Nouvelle. Usually, I am using TomTomGO for navigation. It happened initially from time to time, but recently more often, that the arrowhead symbol on the CarPlay screen for TomTomGO went backwards. I'm driving normally forward, but the display is 180 degrees wrong - this looks simply crazy! North is still at the upper end, the arrowhead representing the car is moving DOWN. I contacted TomTom, and they asked if other navigation apps would show the same problem.

After this hint, I tested AppleMaps for the first time with CarPlay. The problem was the same: when TomTomGO moves backwards, AppleMaps has the same problem. North is still at the upper end, the arrowhead representing the car is moving DOWN. The "moving backwards" problem also causes problems with finding and announcing the route, but this is somehow to be expected.

Any hint what to do? It seems that the GPS system of my iPhone is the cause of the trouble?

And yes, I am running the most recent iOS (16.6 (20G75)).

My text in the initial description is wrong with respect to "North". The orientation of the map in the CarPlay display is not towards North. It is oriented correctly according to my route and my normal forward driving direction. The arrowhead representing my car is moving wrongly towards the lower end of the screen / CarPlay display.

(More exactly: it is the map that is "moving" on the screen, the arrowhead keeps it's position relative to the limits of the display.)
