How to determine if photos have been placed in albums

I wish to place all photos into albums, and have already placed some photos into their respective albums … but how can I determine which ones of the more than 20,000 photos have not yet been placed into albums ?

As a former Samsung user, I appreciated ‘moving’ photos into their respective albums, as my photo inbox can then be empty, which means all photos are in their albums. Regretfully iPhones don’t offer that convenience.. is there an easy work around to accomplish this goal ?

Thanks.

iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 16

You can easily tell which Photos haven't been placed in an album with this smart album:

Do you have a Mac as well and are you using iCloud Photos to keep the Mac and iPhone in sync? Then do the test on your Mac with a smart album with the rule "Album is not any". This album will show you all photo you have not yet moved into an album.

On your iPhone you may want to mark the photos you have added to an album with the favourite heart ♡. Then you can see at a glance, if a photo is already in an album. This will work, if you only want to keep favorite photos in albums, to prevent the albums from becoming cluttered with mediocre photos.

Or add all new photos, that you want to distribute to albums to a temporary album "My Recents". Then select the photos that you want to add to albums in your own "My Recents" and remove the pht photo from My Recents, once it has been added to an album. From your own albums you can remove the photos, without removing them from the library and other albums.

Brilliant léonie, I never knew that. Just spent an hour deleting or placing 495 photos into albums!

Now a smart album showing all photos in the wrong album would be useful 😂
