My AirPods Max weren’t showing location and had a “mismatch” alert too. Which is impossible because they’re one piece.
i found it hard to find any article that will help troubleshoot since most of them were pretty inclined to AirPods Pro.
After a lot of resetting, testing, “forget device”, etc. I figured out that “Find My Network” needs to be turned off for specifically AirPods Max, since that is used to locate the pair of AirPods Pro as a “match”.
as soon as I turned that option off, I was able to see the location of my AirPods Max instantly.
