MacBook Pro stops giving sound, which comes back muffled after closing and opening the lid

I have a very strange issue with the sound on my MacBook Pro 13in (Intel, 2020). After some time, the sound just stops. Usually when switching between streaming videos (regardless of the browser). Restarting and shutting down does not help. Only after closing and opening of the lid does the video have sound, but it comes back muffled. As soon as I try playing another video, the sound is gone. And not just for the videos, the system sounds are gone as well. After closing the lid and leaving the MacBook alone for some time, everything comes back working normally! And that lasts for some time, then the issue repeats. This started after the 13.4 update. Sound settings show nothing out of order. NVRAM reset does not help. I also reinstalled the OS, that does not help either. I have the latest updates, apparently 13.5 update did not resolve this issue. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

Hello,


As I have already said, nothing out of the ordinary is happening in the settings. Of course that I have checked this first. Speakers are selected and volume is up, but as I said, the sound is not coming out. It comes back on its own after some time, only to disappear again.

Try this instructions in order to fix this issue


First, disconnect any cables from the USB, Thunderbolt, or 3.5mm audio ports on your Mac.

  1. From the Apple menu , choose System Settings (or System Preferences).
  2. Click Sound.
  3. Click the Output tab, then select the built-in speakers. If you don’t see built-in speakers as an option in the Output window, contact Apple Support.
  4. If the Output volume slider is set low, move the slider to the right and test again.
  5. If the Mute checkbox is selected, deselect it and test again.
  6. If you still don’t hear any sound, contact Apple Support.
