Hi MacJim,
Yes you sure are correct. But I had a long discussion with a Sr. Advisor on the subject. Apparently, if one wants to get rid of all the music selections and history one must unpair the phone, re-pair, and when prompted for "CarPlay" respond "no".
And here's another question: using Apple music, I find options on my car like "vesta's music" (same list as My Playlists; Albums, Artists) which includes alot of songs that I've never heard, never downloaded and even artists that I've never heard of. There are also artists that I really like, but never even search for/downloaded to the Apple Music app.
Many I quite like! And it's just a continuous music-play of mostly stuff I like...how did this populate on my car? Where/how did this originate/generate? I feel like Apple Music is kinda reading my mind...which is pretty weird. 🧐
I believe the option you are seeing on your car called "vestas music" is your personal radio station in Apple Music based on the songs you have downloaded or liked. You can tell Siri to "Play Music that I like" and she will start playing that station. You can also say "I don't like this song" or "I like this song" to tailor the music more specifically to what you like. Also if you continually skip a song, Siri will learn that you would rather not want to listen to that one.
Every Apple Music subscriber gets their own personal radio station. I don't have CarPlay in my BMW, but do use Bluetooth to play Apple Music through the car, so your iDrive screen would look different than mine.
If you say so...but many of these songs/artists I've never heard of, let alone chose.
Anyway, just fyi: according to apple.com, my car model/year does not have CarPlay, but when I look on my phone:
general/CarPlay/Unconnect/Customize ... then see if "Music" it is listed.
Turns out my car does have/is running CarPlay. Which actually I like...so I'm having second thoughts about fretting over the car being populated by CarPlay.
To find you personalize radio station on your phone, go to the Music app and select the "For You" tab. I find mine under the Recently Played section and yours is probably called "vestas music". It does a great job of playing music I like based on what I have listened to before. Once in a while it will play something the I would rather not listen to and I just tell Siri "I don't like this song", and it will not play it again and will further target songs that I may like instead.
I wish my BMW X1 had CarPlay, but I bought it 1 year too soon. I have no problems listening to Apple Music over Bluethooth, I just have to select the music from my phone to play wirelessly instead of being able to use the touch screen.
Hi Mac Jim: thank you for your reply-so helpful. I have a 2016 X1 but alas it does have CarPlay despite apple.com saying “no”.
i will follow your instructions but I am disappointed that with the common cars we could not speak more directly.
oh well..new world-that I dont like but must abide.
The playlists that show up on your BMW are pulled from your iPhone. You cannot delete them from your BMW using the controls that manage iDrive, it can only be done from your phone.
