Disable AirTag tracking notifications for specific AirTags

Our two dogs each have an AirTag on their collar linked to my partner's Apple ID. I understand that it's not possible to add an AirTag to two Apple IDs (though that would be very useful and and a very reasonable feature to have). As a result, I get an "Unknown AirTag moving with you" notification constantly - every time I walk a dog. However, it doesn't seem that it's possible to disable these notifications for specific AirTags - you can either pause (but not fully disable) notifications for specific AirTags (which is annoying b/c I have to do that on a daily basis on both of my iPhones), or you can disable these notifications altogether for ALL AirTags (which I don't want to do for security reasons). What do I do?

Hello Default User,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We completely understand not wanting to see this alert every time you walk your dog. While sharing an AirTag is not something that can be accomplished right now, Apple has listened to feedback from customers, and it will be available in iOS 17 when it’s released. You can learn more about that here: iOS 17 makes iPhone more personal and intuitive - Apple

Scroll down the section for AirTags and read the information there.

Kindest regards.

Although, as Shannon_DN has mentioned, the ability to share AirTags is coming, I still wonder why folks use them with their pets.

If your goal is to be able to track your pet should it get away, the AirTag (which depends on Bluetooth), is poorly designed for this function. By that I mean that the AirTag will require another iPhone nearby (within 30') to pick up its signal. In turn, that iPhone would have to have both Bluetooth and "Find My Network" enabled to receive that signal, and either by wireless or cellular, have an Internet connection to send the tag's location information to an Apple server. That's where you would find it with the Find My app on your iPhone. Since the tag's signal is more like a beacon that only sends out its signal every 10 mins or so, your pet could easily be outside of the range of that iPhone, thus negating its value.

Again, I'm making an assumption for why you want to use it for a pet ... and, if you do, I would suggest that you consider getting a dedicated tracking device that relies on GPS which would overcome these limitations.
