Apple TV - purchased TV shows not showing up in “Up Next”

I noticed after updating my Apple TV devices, my iPad and iPhone to the latest OS release 2 days ago, that shows I’ve purchased from Apple are no longer showing up in the “Up Next” area of the Apple TV app. If I search for these shows and manually add them to Up Next, I’m not presented with the option to watch the purchased versions - just the versions that are available through streaming channels. I’ve confirmed this behavior with the TV app across all my Apple devices so I’m thinking that the 16.6 update broke something.

If the Apple TV app shows a next episode for your chosen TV show through a different content provider (not your library), then the Apple TV app have may been confused for the available options of content providers. To correct that, please note which episode is next up, then remove the show from Up Next, and start the wanted episode from the library. That should put it back in Up Next, which a corrected link to the applicable content provider (Apple’s iTunes Store in this case).

I have done this exact step multiple times - including removing the series and re-adding. The problem is that Apple TV does not show up in my list of "How To Watch" options except for those season that I have *not* purchased. This repros across all of my devices (iPhone, iPad and 2 different 4K Apple TV boxes). Something has broken with the most recent update.

While this is not a showstopper since I can still watch the show by going directly to my library of purchased content, it does break the UI and workflow.

Guess I'm going to have to open a ticket with Apple.

Find the tile for the show in the Apple TV app.

- For the Up Next row, click-and-hold, then select View Details,

- For anywhere else in the app, just click the tile to go to the Details page.

On the Details page, scroll down to How to Watch, then select the “tv” option, instead of other content providers. That should fix the preference for preferred content provider from then on. If not, then Remove from Up Next, and Add it again.

I have a similar experience. The new Apple TV app will show the next series episode in "up next" but it will not allow me to play only purchase, despite having the content already purchased and in my library. Something is definitely broken, and happened following their decision/work to transfer the movies and tv series from itunes store app to the apple tv app. I notice this on both iOS and apple TV devices.
