Thanks for your answer. I was aware of the role of Apple's Captive portal for the WiFi traffic and portable devices. However, I am seeing this traffic on my Mac with a wired connection and, for good measure, the WiFi turned off.

So I'm wondering what generates that traffic in my case and is it really necessary (i.e. can it be suppressed). A message sent and received every 15 seconds seems a bit excessive :-)

Networking issues, to be honest, are not really a " Strong Suit " of mine.

If Yes, is the Contacts Application using a Third Party Source to sync with ?
