I've identify a proximate cause. I have two Apple Thunderbolt displays, of slightly different vintage. One is at home and one is at work. I habitually use my MBP with the display plugged in via lightning(thunderbolt?)/USB-C adapter, with a logitech wireless keyboard RF xceiver and cheap optical mouse plugged into the USB hub in the display. When I transition between home and work, I unplug at one end and re-plug into the other display when I get there.
This has caused problems before. A couple of years ago the OS would crash occasionally when I went in one of the directions (don't remember which direction) - maybe a watchdog timeout, I can't remember. IIRC, I had to wait for the next update or two before it was fixed.
Anyway, last night hot corners were not working at home. When I plugged in at work today, they are working again. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the display USB hubs are older 2.0? Dunno, but since that's been the problem before, it's my prime suspect.
I guess I'll have to call support - when I have some extra time.
