iPhone SE bluetooth problems

I recently purchased a new iPhone SE and it’s plagued with problems. One of which is bluetooth which I paired with an external speaker and my car. Unlike my old phone which connected automatically and immediately with these devices, the new phone requires I often go to the bluetooth control panel then select the item. These connections drop frequently (sometimes as quickly as a few seconds). I reconnect and it’s dropped again. “IF” the connection holds, I later try to use the airplay selector from the lock screen to switch back to the iPhone, I find that “iPhone” is already selected, the selector does not work.

Since this is a new device I phoned apple and spoke to someone in support who ran a remote diagnostic on the phone and said it was fine. They told me the problem was the car and speaker because they were too old. (Each are only a few years old.)

This week I purchased a new pair of airpod pro. Paired them with the phone then used them for a phone call. The bluetooth connection dropped in less than 5 minutes. I should point out that in all instances the phone and bluetooth device were never more than a few inches apart. I never had this problem with my previous phone (iPhone 6).

This phone is useless but apple insist there is nothing wrong. Apple Pay, Message & email alerts are not working properly along with other problems. This is the worst apple purchase I have ever made. Please tell me what I might do to solve this. Thank you.

Hello rick_de,

Thanks for connecting with Apple Support Communities. We understand that your new iPhone SE keeps disconnecting from your Bluetooth devices. The following steps may be able to assist you:

"If your headphones keep disconnecting

If you tested your headphones as described in the previous section and audio keeps disconnecting or cutting in and out, unpair your headphones and then pair them again.

Unpair your headphones

Unpair from an iPhone:

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Find the device that you want to unpair and tap the Info button .
  3. Tap Forget This Device.
  4. Restart your iPhone.

Unpair from a non-Apple device:

  1. On your non-Apple device, go to the settings for Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is on. For example, on an Android device, go to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth.
  2. Unpair—or forget—your headphones.
  3. Restart your non-Apple device.

Pair your headphones again

Pair—or connect—your headphones again. Find instructions for your headphones and the device that you want to pair them with:

More details here: If the sound from your wireless headphones cuts out or is distorted

If you continue to experience the same behavior, we suggest that you continue working with Apple directly on this issue. You can follow this link to connect back with them: Get Support

All the best.

I have bluetooth issues with the 3rd gen as well and I have also gone to support to be told the phone is fine. My personal opinion is that there simply hasn't been enough sales of this phone to have problems percolate up to the level Apple support can recognize. I had a 2nd gen until Dec. Then the problems arose. So not me, not my carrier (as support tried to tell me on a related issue). It's the phone I'm now stuck with.

And by the way, I started this answer days ago on the iPad, in Safari. I couldn't stay logged in. In the apple forum on apple devices etc. I had to post this in a browser on my computer. I have had an iPad since 2014, iPhone since 2009, tried a Mac Studio this past year and an Apple card. I've swapped the mac for a PC. I've tried other tablets. I like an iPhone but I am trying not to use the apple card because of the problems I ran into with it (not the bank but the way all these products are integrated) - making problems for me, a normal but technologically advanced user - I am a web designer and have even designed apps before. If there was any way to get away from Apple completely I would.

I have an iPhone 6 and just upgraded to an iPhone SE just like you and I am having issues between the two.

My main problem now is the Bluetooth on each phone will not pair with each other even though they are laying right on top of each other. The pairing always fails.

After checking Apple support and finding nothing, I googled to try to find a solutions there. I could not find any help with pairing my two specific phones, so I followed the instructions pairing different iPhones, and the only information given was for detecting devices, not pairing them.

So I’m checking to see if anyone else has ever had pairing issues like mine and found the problem. If so, I would be deeply grateful if you would give me some help. I have been working on this issue off and on all freaking day! Grrrrr

P.S. Both iPhones can find each other by name, but they will not pair, I always get a “pairing failed” message.

I am deeply grateful for kindness. Thank you much!
