For the first time in several months I inserted a DVD on my iMac. It would try to start a few times, I heard it spin a few times. Then the disc ejects without starting. I tried this with two discs. The drive doesn't show up in Finder.

Also try to check your iMac with Apple Diagnostics if it reports internal Super Drive related error.
