The album I bought 10 years ago on iTunes has suddenly disappeared from my library

I've bought The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here by Alice In Chains via iTunes on May 28th, 2013. I've been listening to it happily all the years since. Until today. A few hours ago I decided to listen to it and to my unhappy surprise I found out that the album is almost entirely gone. Not just on my iPhone, but on all my Apple devices. I haven't deleted it myself, it has just vanished. How come something like this is even possible? And how do I get it back including one of my most favorite AiC song – Voices?

I am having the same issues with disappearing music. I will upload a CD I've purchased and I can see the music in my Library. At some point I will go to listen to the entire CD and for example will find 1 - 2 songs out of 15. Some of the songs are duplicated and others will show the name of the song, but when I play it, it's a totally different song.

I have used backup files to restore my Library. I've also spent nights and weekends inserting CD's into a drive and uploading them again.

It's funny that I never have an issue with songs purchased from iTunes. It's also funny that when I look for a song that I know I "own" and have listened to previously, that Siri will tell me I don't have it, but it opens Apple Music and asks if I want to subscribe to the streaming service to listen to it.

This happens on my iPhone 12 mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iPad.

So your iTunes purchases are available, and most of the iTunes Store album music purchase within this thread is missing?

Seems a corruption or other issue arising certainly, but seemingly not related to this thread.

One potential path for wonky iCloud Music (which, again, matches your report but doesn’t match the symptoms in this thread) is to sign out of all devices, restart all, and then sign back in. iCloud is too much of a black box in some ways and is lacking a more generalized reset mechanism, unfortunately.

And if you are not using iCloud Music and a subscription but rather a cable sync, I’d wonder if the macOS Music library was corrupted.

Contacted Apple, the only explanation they proved is that the provider of content may have deleted it himself. And I have known that they can do it and the content may disappear IF you use an Apple Music subscription. But I haven’t know they can do it with the content you bought. Especially 10 years ago. This is quite disappointing. I guess I should fully return to CD’s as well. Thank you for your answers nevertheless.

Losing a few dollars of likely-replaceable music is annoying certainly, where losing some or all of your most precious personal photos and videos and files is far, far worse. Backups are important.

I had the same problem. You think if you buy something online that is cloud based, you'd have access to it online. But that's not the case with iTunes. It's even worse if you move to another country.

I moved from the UK to The Netherlands and all my movies, music and apps were gone because of licensing problems.

I only lost about 800 GBP through this but I imaging someone who watches movies often would loose a lot more.

Will never purchase any content from Apple again because they don't make it clear enough that you don't pay for the content but only limited access to the content until they arbitrarily decide to not make it available anymore.

The same exact thing happened to me just trying to find out what’s going on. Noticed voices is the only Alice In Chains song I have left. ******! I guarantee a update polished it off. The album is not on ITunes store either. Will be making the Apple call. Been purchasing since the Ipod Shuffle first came out. Not my first rodeo with update nightmares.
