Preview can't communicate with helper app

I try to load any file into preview (PDF, PNG, JPG, etc.) and it gives an error. I'm dead in the water. Is there a way I can delete and reload that helper. Does anyone know what it is? Is there a source for that info. I've tried an recovery mode reinstallation of Ventura. I've run diskutility from recover mode. I've deleted any non current apps. I asked Etrecheck to see what it could find and followed it's suggestions. Aside from having a 16" MacBookPro M1 with cleaner apps and fewer files, I'm still stuck. Please help, if you can?

Combine two PDFs

  4. Choose Edit > Insert > Page from File.*

  6. To save, choose File > Export as PDF.

* If this option is dimmed, make sure that the file you have open is a PDF. Some encrypted PDF documents can't be merged. To check the permissions of a PDF, choose Tools > Show Inspector, then click .

Hey Van-D,

Got it, you can't open PDF files but the extensions you can view.

Double check and make sure none of the Preview Settings changed without your knowledge.

Try opening the PDF using another app, such as Books.

You can also Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and if the file opens for you, restart to return to normal mode and try opening the file again.

If this behavior continues, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support using this link: Get Support.

Good luck!
