Battery drain after installation of iOS 16.5.1(c)

I have an iPhone 12 that had no battery issues until I installed the latest security update, iOS 16.5.1(c). Since then my battery drops from 100% to 50% in three to four hours while not being used. In six or so hours, if I am not careful, it is in the red. I have done everything I have read to reduce battery usage, but it hasn’t helped. I can’t really use my phone now. Has anyone else noticed a battery problem after this latest security update?

Hi Whomever125,

If you feel that your battery life is depleting faster than usual, causing you to have to have to charge your battery more often? If so, you may have an opportunity to adjust some settings on your iPhone to preserve your battery life and life span.

First, review the article linked above along with the one I have linked immediately below. They’ll explain a lot about how your battery impacts your iPhone and how to read the battery reports. About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Then, adopt the recommendations outlined here: Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

Make sure you’re using Optimized Battery Charging. This will allow your iPhone to charge up to 80% during regular charging times and to 100% when it learns your daily charging routing, thus preserving the lifespan of your battery by managing the number of complete charge cycles. This article explains: About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone - Apple Support

Once you’ve made adjustments, charge your battery to 100% and observe the battery life for a couple of days.

Lager1, I already did all of the things you suggested plus going to dark mode, reducing the white point to 50%, turning data from 5G to LTE, turning off auto play video and only allowing a few apps to background refresh. It has helped a little bit: now my phone takes 7 hours to go from 100% to red if I don’t use it at all. If I do use it, we are talking 4 to 5 hours. Any more that you can think of? Or do I need to contact Apple Support? Whomever125
