I’m trading in for a new MacBook Air and I was not sure if I need to return the charger that my MacBook Pro came with, because I heard they just recycle it. But I also don’t want to be wrong.

If the existing MacBook Pro charger is a USB-C or MagSafe charger model, it quite possibly works with some of the current MacBook Air models. The USB-C chargers should work with other USB devices, too.
