Photos how to correct People names

My favorite person in Photos is misnamed and I want to correct the name. Evidently, photos assigned this wrong name to hundreds of photos with his face in them. He is correctly named in some photos. How can I correct the ones that are wrong?

When you open the album of the person, where the name is wrong - are there only photos of this person in the album or also some photos of another person? If the album with the wrong name is a mixed album with faces of more than one person, do not drag it onto the album with the correct name. First remove the faces of all other people from this album by selecting them, then ctrl-click the selection and using the command "this is not ...".

If Photos should rename the rejected photos with the name of the person right away and does not keep the correction, Photos has already used the faces with the wrong name to learn what the person is looking like and thinks the two people are one and the same person. Then it will be harder to correct this, see: How to Correct Merged People Albums - Apple Community

This happens to me all the time when I misspell someone's name, or I call a guy Uncle Sam in one and Sam Spade in another, so I get two albums of the same guy.

In People in Ventura, you can just drag one person's album into another, and Photos will ask, "Is this the same person?" If you say yes, then they will combine into just one album. If you don't like the name, you can type in a new one.

I'm not sure if this worked that way before Ventura-- I remember clicking on one picture, command-clicking on another, and right clicking to get a menu. The menu included "merge 2 people." This still works in Ventura, as well.

Hello Sje45,

We'd like to provide you with the steps that can assist you with correcting the name in Photos, on your Mac:

"Manually identify and name people in a photo

Some photos may contain people who are not automatically named. You can name them manually.

  1. In the Photos app on your Mac, double-click a photo to open it.
  2. Do one of the following:
  • Choose View > Show Face Names. Click the name (or click “unnamed”) under a face, type a name, then press Return (or choose a name that appears as you type).
  • Click the Info button in the toolbar. Click the Add button , drag the circle to position it over the face if necessary, click the Name field, type a name, then press Return.

You can click the Add button  multiple times to identify multiple faces in a photo. To remove a name that you added to a face, click the Remove button  on the person.

To stop showing face names in photos, choose View > Hide Face Names."
