Restricting ability of child to change VPN

We are using AT&T's secure family to place restrictions on our daughter's iPhone and to control when she has internet access. It relies on VPN; all she has to do is go into Settings and turn off the VPN - and we lose all control.

I'd like to disable her ability to turn off the VPN. There have been suggestions to try using Screen Time and turning off a setting called "Background App Activities", but that doesn't seem to do anything. She can still access the VPN settings page and toggle the VPN off.

How can I prevent her from turning the VPN off? Is this even possible?

YES!! I have been asking for the ability to put changes to the VPN behind a screen time password for years!! I do not know why that is not an option!!

Thanks for the reply, but

1) the VPN IS trusted

2) IF my child can turn off "Auto-connect to VPN" then that does not help.

3) A strong password on MY phone, does not prevent my child from turning off the VPN on THEIR phone.

4) A MDM solution would be great...unfortunately I do not know of a filtering/protection provider for a child's phone that offers that yet. If you know of any, THAT would be great information.

Thanks,

To provide more specific techniques, please re-post with the following information:

  1. The name of your VPN service provider.
  2. The model of your iPhone and your daughter's.
  3. The version of iOS running on your iPhone and your daughter's.

With this information, many can offer more targeted advice on how to disable the ability to turn off the VPN on your specific device and VPN service provider.

Here is some general guidance on how you can enhance the security of your VPN on your daughter's iPhone.

  1. Choose a VPN app from a trusted provider with a good reputation for privacy and security.
  2. Most VPN apps have an option to automatically connect to the VPN when your iPhone starts up or when you access certain networks. Enable this feature to ensure that your VPN is always active.
  3. Set a strong passcode or use biometric authentication (such as Touch ID or Face ID) to protect your iPhone. This helps prevent unauthorized access and reduces the likelihood of someone disabling the VPN.
  4. Some VPN providers offer a mobile device management (MDM) solution that allows you to create a profile with restricted settings. This can prevent users from disabling or modifying the VPN settings on their devices. Check if your VPN provider offers this feature.

It's important to note that disabling the ability to turn off the VPN on your iPhone may have unintended consequences or restrict your ability to troubleshoot network issues. Always consider the implications before implementing such restrictions.

I am having the same issue with my son and his iPhone. Security features don't work if the VPN is turned off. I have been researching and it seems Apple doesn't care about the security of our children. Along with the VPN issue, they make it difficult to use 3rd party apps to monitor activity on an iPhone. I am very close to getting my son an android so I have more control over what he can and can't access on the interwebs. It is very frustrating as a parent to be unable to monitor my child's activity on the iPhone!
