Photos App changing imported photo dates to the date they are imported on, not the actual photo date

Starting in early April, when I import photos from my iPhone to Photos App on my MacBook Air, the Photos App is giving almost all of my photos the date that I imported them instead of the date they were actually taken!! So now if I don't import photos immediately, the dates are all wrong. Why is the Photos App doing this, and how can I get it to make the actual date for my photos be the date they were taken instead of the date they were imported? See attached screenshot...the photo is showing the date I imported it as its date (April 19, 2023) instead of the date I actually took it which was over a year ago. It has always imported with the date taken in the past up until in April 2023. This is a HUGE issue for my Photos...HELP!!

Note that I do NOT just want to change the dates of the photos I have already imported that had their dates changed, I want to fix the problem that is causing the import date becoming the photo date...I don't want to keep having to change the dates once I import photos in the future, I want to fix the Photos App problem that is causing this to happen. It has NEVER happened in the past prior to sometime in March/April of this year. I'm wondering if an Apple System Update may have caused this to start happening; I can't remember if am update had happened then or not. Any ideas as to why this just started happening and how I can stop it from happening on future imports??
