Why does my Apple TV app keep saying my episode is “unavailable for playback”

Please quote the full error message, if more that these 3 words, including optional codes.

On what device is this happening? (Troubleshooting is different for different devices.)

Does that happen at the beginning of the show or episode, or after some playback time?


See if this support document has applicable troubleshooting steps for you: If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app - Apple Support (specifically the paragraph “If the movie or TV show won't start playing“).


Next,

  1. See if you device system software can be updated.
  2. Try signing out, then sign in again, for a refresh of the account properties.
  3. Try to delete and re-install the Apple TV app, if supported on your device.
  4. Try a real restart of the streaming device (not sleep-wake).


If the issue persists, then please contact the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Their list of solutions for similar behavior could have some entries that are not cited on this forum.
