Cannot access "erase" in Disk Utility

Trying to erase the OS setting for 2015 Macbook Pro. need to do a clean reinstall

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

are you trying to erase the drive while booted into said drive?

I believe that to erase a disk it is necessary to use Disk Utility that is in another disk.
