Apple TV 4K default audio output
Is it possible to set default audio output on my Apple TV 4K to my BOSE Sound bar?

HDMI/eARC … the ATV 4K audio default remains tv speakers and I have to select the soundbar as Temporary every single time I use ATV.
Setting Apple TV to “TV speakers” is the recommended setting, even for soundbars. Additionally set the TV to passthrough audio to the soundbar. This will use the HDMI connection.
Direct selection of the audio output on Apple TV will use AirPlay or Bluetooth at possibly lesser quality (stereo).

I’ve realised that 3rd generation box is probably one of the most disappointing streaming boxes I’ve purchased in a while
dolby vision is always displayed and works fine, however audio Dolby Atmos always drops, I’ve followed all guides from apple and forum
only time it seems to work is doing a full resetting of the box, then when I go onto normal tv and then go back to Apple TV box again, Dolby Atmos is not showing in video and audio settings. presumptuous of me maybe, but would have expected apple products to be more plug and play with the odd tweak with tv and soundbar
very very disappointed with the box and considering price comparison to other boxes out there, allot of money to pay for a streaming box that only delivers part it promises
still didn't work.
What didn’t work? What was the expectation? What happens instead?
Maybe a forum user that has a Bose soundbar themselves can share how they do it?
Thanks for the advice, I tried that but still doesn't seem to work.
I set the AppleTV default to TV and changed the TV audio output setting to HDMI which was connected to my BOSE Subbed bar, still didn't work.
I was able to connect my Bose soundbar 600 in this order :
Apple TV HDMI > Samsung TV > Bose soundbar 600 using optical from tv
This will complete your objective of the sound being the default audio source when you wake the Apple TV. Downside I have experienced is that I now need to control the audio from the Bose remote through this type of wiring.
You can set the Apple TV box to default output audio to the TV (=over HDMI). And then set the TV to output any of its audio to the soundbar.
In contrast, a direct connection from Apple TV box to soundbar (=over Bluetooth or AirPlay) is always a temporary setting. It is also reduced in quality (stereo instead of surround sound).
I have the same issue trying to connect ATV 4K to a Samsung S60 soundbar via new Samsung OLED tv. Upgraded all cables to high speed HDMI/eARC etc, but the ATV 4K audio default remains tv speakers and I have to select the soundbar as Temporary every single time I use ATV. Thus is one way to avoid the lip sync issues which are otherwise a constant feature of watching Apple TV. The other is to abandon the ATV box and use the ATV App installed on the Samsung Tv, but I find this an inferior experience, not just because of the limited controls available.
Objective was to set the default audio output to my BOSE Sound bar. That didn’t work.
I’m looking for the same answer. I can only set it to temporary and then it seems like every week we’ll lose connection to the soundbar.
Did anyone figure this out?
