Perhaps you WiFi performance is poor. Where possible, use 5GHz WiFi channels in preference to 2.4GHz channels. You may need to reconfigure your WiFi Router; check your Router’s User Guide for instructions.
2.4GHz WiFi channels are very susceptible to co-channel or adjacent channel interference from neighbouring networks, or other devices that share the channel space - such a Bluetooth and Microwave ovens. The 2.4GHz band only has three non-interfering channel (1, 6, 11).
Also consider your internet performance - although you may have very little direct control over issues that affect your internet connection. Bandwidth/throughput, jitter and packet-loss and routing can all impact connection efficiency and reliability.
A good speed-test tool can provide good measurement statistics between your device and a test server. One popular tool is Ookla’s Speed Test App:

If your internet connection has high jitter or packet loss, a restart of your WiFi Router/Modem may help. To restart your router, disconnect power from the router for at least 30 seconds - then reconnect power to restart. After your router reboots (which may take several minutes), force restart your iPad:
Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)
If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:
Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)
Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
