Reduced volume on airpods

The volume in my AirPods has reduced significantly and I can’t seem to rectify it. Anyone any ideas on how to fix this?

The most frequent cause of low volume is <need-to-clean>. This usually hits one AirPod more than the other, it would be unusual to get the same earwax buildup on both together.

Second most common cause is Operator Error, needing to increase the volume from the source device. This is probably more likely if both AirPods have gone low volume at the same time.
