Mail app intermittent failure

I am running an iPhone 11 with IOS 16.5.1 and I am having an issue with the Mail app in that sometimes (but not always) when I send or reply to an email the app will act like it sent the email, but then later when I check why I have no response, I can find no trace in sent messages or outbox of the email I wrote and the recipient never received anything.

Its like the message I wrote just vanished when I hit send.

It’s really annoying. What’s going on?

Well, we’re missing quite a few pertinent facts, such as your email service provider and exactly what your iPhone was doing immediately after you sent the messages in question.

I will take a guess. You have Settings > Mail > Undo Send Delay not turned “off”, and you did something immediately after you thought you sent the messages in question (but did not because of the send delay) to preclude sending the messages.

Thank you sberman, the disappearing mails have occurred in two mail accounts. One is an Outlook account and the other is an MS Exchange ActiveSync email account.

I do indeed have the Undo Send delay set at 10s.

Immediately after sending the Mail, I probably closed the Mail app.

Closing the Mail app though shouldn’t undo sending the message. And even if it did, the message should be in the drafts folder.

Strangely, they sometimes just vanish like I never typed it. Has happened to my Wife a couple of times too on her phone. Also with Outlook mail account.
