Disk not ejected properly

Once every few days I get a message saying disk not ejected properly referring to a brand new external drive even though it is not being removed. A quick search suggested running First Aid which didn't help. I tried different a connection cable and a different port on the Mac. No luck.

I use the drive exclusively for Time Machine

MacBook Pro 2021

Ventura 13.4.1

External drive: LaCie 4 TB, 1.6 GB used

Thanks, community!

I've seen a number of threads on this exact same subject, and my takeaway is, nobody (including the senior Apple support technician I spoke with) knows why it happens. I have a *brand* new Mac Mini Pro/M2 running Sonoma 14.1 with a *brand* new SSD drive, connected with *brand* new cables that are in perfect condition, and it still happens. It doesn't happen every day, it happens randomly. And when it happens, it happens every couple of minutes. If I leave my desk for a little while, I come back to a couple of hundred notifications like that.

Apple, you guys need to figure this out! It's VERY irritating.

This issue can sometimes be caused by a variety of factors, including software glitches, hardware issues, or even power fluctuations.

Since you've already tried running First Aid and changing the connection cable and port, let's try a few more troubleshooting steps.

First, ensure that your MacBook Pro and your LaCie drive are both updated to the latest firmware. This can often resolve compatibility issues that might be causing the problem.

Second, try reformatting your LaCie drive. Please note that this will erase all data on the drive, so ensure you have a backup before proceeding. You can do this using Disk Utility on your Mac.

Finally, if neither of these steps work, it might be worth contacting LaCie support or Apple Support directly, as they may be able to provide more specific assistance.
