Issues adding music to playlists

Hi there. I’ve been having a problem with adding music to playlists in my Apple Music for a few years now (I’ve procrastinated a little bit looking for a solution). It doesn’t happen every time i try to add a song, but I would say it happens 70-80% of the time. When I add a song I will get the pop up saying it’s been added and the automatic download will start, but when I go to check my playlist it has not been added. So I go back and try to add the song to the playlist again, but when I go back to the playlist the song will be there with a duplicate. So I try and remove the duplicate and it removes both copies. I then have to go and add the song a third time to get it into the playlist. It always works on the third time but I would really like to be able to just have to add the song once and not have to worry about going to the playlist to check if it’s been added every time. I have tried restarting the app, restarting my phone, updating my phone, waiting to see if the song will add after a few minutes, adding a different song afterwards to see if it will add itself without going through the whole process mentioned above. Nothing I have tried has worked. Any advice?

Hi PumpsAndPulaskis,

It sounds like you may be selecting the song to be added to your offline library instead of merely adding it to a playlist.

Are you following these steps?

  1. "Touch and hold an album, playlist, song, or music video.
  2. Tap Add to a Playlist, then choose a playlist."

If it is automatically downloading, try turning off "Always download music: Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Automatic Downloads."
