macbook Pro (2015) -- had auto updates on. SSD no longer pops up. image got installed on base system. (july 2023)

ust as the title says, I believe my boot got installed on the OS X base system which is ~ 2GB big, (normal size). However, it won't read and pick up the SSD that I also have in my MacBook. I cannot erase anything, I've tried terminal access, it gets stuck on the install screen when I try to "install a new copy." Anybody come up with a resolution, who has all of the issues mentioned above?

You can NOT install onto anything named MacOS Base System which at 2 GB size is likely the Recovery System image in Read-Only Memory (ROM).

You need a Volume with at least 50 GB or more free to install a new copy of MacOS.

be sure you have set the Disk Utility 'View' to Show all devices.

a drive that will not tell Disk Utility its name and a reasonable non-zero size/capacity has failed and cannot be repaired, erased or installed on.
