iPad mini 6 syncing?

My 2013 iMac does not have USB-C port but I have tried an adaptor to connect my new iPad mini 6. This does not seem to work.

Is there a way to get the iMac iTunes to recognize my iPad without being connected directly to the computer?

When plugged into the iMac with the adaptor, it does not show charging taking place either, so I'm thinking either my iMac (running High Sierra) is too old to "see" the iPad or there is a setting somewhere that I don't know about.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

If your Mac does not have a USB-C port - instead having the older USB Type-A ports - you should simply use a USB Type-A to USB-C cable. These are readily available from good computer stores and from Apple.

You should avoid so-called USB-C Adapters - as these are not certified. Many are only designed for charging - not data - and some can cause significant damage to your iPad or computer.
