Paid for a subscription with AppleTV. I watch on iPad but when I try to watch on TV, even signed in, my tv show doesn’t show up. Even when I do a search.

Some smart TVs get the (full) Apple TV app with access to Store and Library. Other smart TVs may get the more specialized Apple TV+ app, just for access to Apple TV+, FNB (and probably MLS).

Which devices get which editions, that depends a bit on age (introduction year of the model) and high endness of the model.
You would need the full Apple TV app for access to purchased seasons of iTunes Store TV shows.

I purchased the entire first season of FBI: Most Wanted. I watch it on my iPad, no problems, but when I was unable to watch it on my tv. I opened Apple TV and signed it, and even searched for it but it never showed up to watch.
Maybe my smart tv is too old. I do have the AppleTV app or can access it on my tv though and can watch movies and other shows.
