Search results for I bought the apple watch because of the fall detection. Twice I was alerted that I had fallen when I didn't, but when I had a hard fall, it was not detected

Not disappointing, just reality. The fall has to exceed a trigger level otherwise you would be cancelling alerts almost continuously.

Depending the direction of the fall and the forces acting on the arm wearing the watch, it might appear as a normal movement. For example, I tripped and pretty much got into a fist fight with a metal railing, enough to break bones in my hand. No alert because a punching type movement did not meet the parameters. However, using a hammer may generate enough false alerts that I have to take the watch off while I work. Simply a movement in a different direction.
