"Access Denied. You don't have permission to access Ikea.com" + CloudFlare constantly captcha checking me

Hello. Recently I've had a lot of difficulty browsing the we b on my computer. It's mac pro 5,1 rx580 mojave w/ Martin Lo OpenCore 8.0.0

Suddenly I keep getting ClodFlare captcha checks when I visit normal websites like my personal artist website hosted by format.com as well as the format.com home page (I can't edit my website since nothing will load after I complete the captcha)

I can't visit Ikea.com

and I get the captcha on a bunch of other websites.

So far I've tried

Resetting router and modem (through unplugging and plugging back in)

Starting up in safe mode (same issues arise)

Using other computers on the network

clearing webrowser cookies and cache

using a different browser

using my cellphone

nothing allows me onto ikea.com or pass the constant captcha checks

The only difference since this started happening is a few weeks ago my girlfriend came to stay at my place and has been using her laptop. Otherwise I don't know what could be causing this. I didn't download any new apps (but also I booted in safe mode and the issue persists).

I don't think I have proxy's on my network (only the checkbox on the bottom of the network>advanced>Proxies page is checked, all other things in that page are unchecked)

please help!

Why do I mention macOS 10.13?

ah I see - I'm sorry about this it's actually Mojave

I removed Avast by uninstalling through the app - is there a better way to do this?

The add-on anti-malware vendors tend to have differing procedures for removal.

Should I also be going into library folder and deleting things pertaining to avast that the uninstaller may have missed? If so which folders are the common folders that should be cleaned up?

What Add on software to the SSD are you speaking on? -

Avast.

what's the highest speed of the Sata port in the mac pro 2009?

I’m looking at the reported transfer speed, which is about twice a hard disk. Which is slow for an SSD.

The SATA in Mac Pro Early 2009 is listed as 3 Gbps SATA.

I see, I'm using a Samsong Evo 860 - what can I do to pull the real sata port speeds?

what hardware configuration is unsupported?

Seemingly, the whole thing. Mac Pro Early 2009 is supported through OS X 10.11. Which would be the MacPro4,1 model, and not MacPro5,1.

I see - I'm using a combined array of adjustments explained by/ some times created by people like Greg Hurtkay, Martin Lo, and Dos Dude to change this mac pro from 4,1 to 5,1 and run mojave with an rx580 and to obtain a boot screen. Do you think these things would slow down the machine as we're seeing here?

The only thing I can think on is the RX580 and possibly martin LO's open core package.

Mac Pro5,1 would be supported with macOS 10.14, but this looks like a MacPro4,1 per at least some of the reporting.

Additionally how can I create a new recovery partition? Mine is missing, and I tried making a new time machine backup to get a recovery drive but that didn't work for some weird reason. I do have Carbon Copy Cloner can I do it via there?

If this is Mac Pro Early 2009 MacPro4,1 as it appears (and not MacPro5,1), then I’d wipe and reinstall OS X 10.11, and that should reload the environment appropriately. Including re-creating the recovery partition. but that’s probably not going to be popular choice.

Whether CCC or repartitioning or some other approach works here? I’ve never tried CCC for this. You’re already well off the path, so have at and let us know. (Have backups before any repartitioning, of course.) As an alternative to the recovery partition, use createinstallmedia and build a bootable installer, and use that.

So yes, CCC does a great job creating a recovery thingy - I made one simply by clicking the hard drive I wanted to put it on and bam now it's there. so was able to go enable SIP - however I cam back and used the Etre app and it still reported SIP was enabled. So I did a terminal command to check if it was enables and it reported it was in fact enabled.

So to check if it was enabled I tried to "bless" the open core package I have on the efi of my boot drive - which is a term for a process that requires SIP be disabled and it worked. This signifies the SIP may actually be disabled despite reporting it is enabled... Do you have any advice on how to make sure SIP is enabled? Any other checks I can do - because perhaps my method of checking faulty???

nope no vpn or anything

Download and run EtreCheck, and share the report to the clipboard. Then open a new reply here, and press the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page to get a text input box big enough to paste the hardware and software configuration report here, and paste and post that report here.

any thoughts?

Those thoughts here would include “try a supported hardware and software configuration”, and “scrounge a Mac mini 2018 or 2020 M1-class, and retire this ~2009 Xeon space heater”, among others.

A semi-recent Mac mini is far faster than 2009-era Xeon Bloomfield and Gainestown, and much cooler; 1737 (2020 M1) vs 1425 (2018) vs 492 (2009 Xeon), etc. Those MP-capable Xeons were… well… slow. (And I still deal with a Mac Pro 2012 that’s stuck on macOS 10.13 “for reasons”.) And these minis are all supported on macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, and the upcoming macOS 14 Sonoma.

That’s an inconsistent hardware configuration, as a Mac Pro 2009 is not supported on macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

There are at least parts of add-on third-party anti-malware around.

The system is substantially overloaded, and the performance for an SSD is low. Roughly twice the speed of an HDD isn’t all that fast.

Google is consuming resources doing who-knows-what, as usual.

And the Apple certificate processing is unusually busy.

Spotlight is having issues, too. Storage corruptions? Something else getting involved, like the anti-malware?

I’d start by removing Avast per the vendor’s instructions, would seriously consider removing the Google apps as those apps tend not to sip system resources, and quite possibly wipe it and reload.

I’d have a look at the status of the add-on SSD hardware, too. It’s slow, but it’s also on an old and slow I/O bus.

And given the hardware and software configuration is unsupported, who knows what else has gone weird.
