iMac Pro startup issue

Hi, anyone had intermittent startup problems with their iMac Pro?

Mine is an 18 core model and had many components (mother board including 16GB graphics card, 128GB RAM, rear housing) replaced by Apple under warranty when it just failed to startup back in March this year. Not even the external drives showed any power going to them.

Initially I thought it was cold weather that was the cause back in March as the operating temp is specified as 10 - 35C and our room where the iMac is dropped on a few occasions below that temp.

However, today it failed to start and the room temp is 18C, after trying the power button multiple times. Then an hour later when I randomly tried to power it on, it came on. Restarted ok and even powered off and on ok.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this intermittent non startup of the iMac Pro and if so whether you found any solution or cause?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,

It could be hardware related issue, try to run Apple Diagnostics if it reports hardware related error.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

If it doesn't help, no error reported, try start up in Safe mode if your issue is caused by software related issue.

HI kaz-k, many thanks for jumping in with your suggestion. I just ran the diagnostic tool and came back 'No issues found' Ref code: ADP000.

It's really odd, I thought it might be the actual power button on the back, but this was replaced when the whole rear casing was exchanged. In fact the only parts that were not replaced were the 2TB SSD and the screen, everything else was new, even the stand!

It seems if my iMac Pro has been powered off for a few days it just doesn't want to startup and only after multiple attempts does it burst into life, really strange.

Absolutely no issues if I don't power it off, wakes from sleep every time and runs like a dream.

I was hoping someone else might have come across this same issue.

But thanks for a great idea anyway.
