iMessage on Mac - change default 'return' key behavior
I instinctively hit 'return' to start a new section. In iMessage, 'return' sends the message instead of going to the next line. Can I change this behavior?
MacBook, macOS 10.15

To get a carriage return in Messages use Option+Return. You can change the Return key to type Option+Return in Messages with the macro app Keyboard Maestro .
You create a special Macro section just for Messages:
and create this macro:
You'll need to use the. Enter key to send the text. If you create the special group for Messages the macro will only work in Messages.

Yes you can change your behavior...don't hit the Return key.
I don't use Messages on Mac, but I know some API the key combo— Shift Option Return will start a new line break...
report back if that works for you in your app.
you can submit your Apple Feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple
Just to clairify, you can't change the behavior. You can use shift return or option return to start a new line or paragraph.

As I mentioned above, both option return and shift return work. It's listed in Messages > Help > Messages Help.
