Apple ID & password for google account

I discovered under “High Prority Recommendations” that I’ve “reused” the same password for both my apple ID & google accounts. Is it okay to have the same apple id user name for both websites, but 2 different passwords for security reasons? If not, should I change my google account user name from my apple id user name to a different name (& password of course) in the google account? I just discovered this could be a security problem recently, & thought it was ok to use my apple id & password for my Macmail google account which I’ve been doing for years.

I never knew this might be a security issue. I feel my questions are dumb, but sometimes Apple’s recommendations are not clear to me (having been a newish convert to Apple from Windows).

Hello there.

my name is Killian and I will be helping you today. I am not an apple employee but I hope that my advice can help you.

when creating a new Apple ID, apple allows you to use a pre existing email address that you already have to save you from having to register a new one.

it is completely up to you if you would like to use the same password or not, that there is no legal requirement. But for your own safety, it is recommended that you use strong passwords for both platforms and preferably, different passwords as you mentioned above, so I don’t understand how you see this as an issue. Maybe if you would like to assign extra security to your Apple ID, I recommend you look into 2 Factor Authentication here: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support (IE)
