Hi,

If you have, or ever have had, iMovie 10 on your Mac, even if you had deleted it, you can get the highest iMovie version that your present operating system will support with the following method: Drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. (You can skip that step if you had iMovie 10 on your computer before, but deleted or lost it.) Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash (if you moved it there) and return it to the Applications folder.

Try the procedure I described anyway. Can't hurt.

As I understand it, you bought a used Mac that did not contain iMovie on it. If so, you probably will not be able to get iMovie unless you obtain it from another Mac computer or find it on the internet someplace. Downloading from unapproved third party websites is not authorized by Apple and runs the risk of mal-ware. The rules of this forum prohibit us from discussing such procedures.

The problem is that the iMovie version that likely originally was on your Mac was acquired under another person's Apple I.D. Therefore, it cannot be updated or acquired via your I.D. through the available authorized channels.
