Magic Mouse charging percentage changes after unpluging

Have a Magic Mouse, version 1.9.2.

Plug into iMac (iMac19,2) to charge. Starts at 3% but won't go above 84%.

Disconnect charging cord from the Magic Mouse.

Still shows connected via Bluetooth but now battery shows 3% again.

Mouse clicks and movement are not registered on the iMac at all.

Same thing happens if I plug into an external outlet. Will show charging. Unplug when reach 40%. Then charge value immediately updates to 3%.

Suggestions?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

First try a different cable. If no change then sounds like bad battery in mouse. You would have to replace the entire mouse as the battery is not user replaceable.

Apple may replace the battery/mouse for $29. See this page or contact Apple Support.

I suggest you to check your Apple Magic Mouse on any other device.

Did the issue begin gradually or immediately?

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, the iMac is the only Apple we have.

This issue was sudden. Both the keyboard and mouse showed a low charge on their batteries.

I charged the keyboard first, since I can charge and keep using it, and the mouse next.

That's when I noticed the mouse would not go above 84%. Thankfully, I had a wired mouse laying around.

I tried everything.

Finally took it to Apple for them to recycle it.

Picked up a Logitech MX Ergo thumb wheel mouse.

Like this a lot. It's Bluetooth and uses actual batteries, so when they expire it's easy to replace. Longevity. Apple use to do this also. Putting design before function does not always work well.
